Stoma
Stoma – living well: Advice and aftercare at the Stoma Outpatient Clinic in Zell am See
For many people, a stoma – whether temporary or permanent – initially represents a major change in their lives. It can be associated with uncertainty, questions about care and a new everyday situation. However, with the right support and individually tailored care, it is possible to live well and independently with a stoma.
At Tauernklinikum Zell am See, we support you in this – professionally, sensitively and with a wealth of experience. Our stoma outpatient clinic offers people with stomas from all over Pinzgau and beyond a competent point of contact for advice, check-ups and aftercare.
What is a stoma?
A stoma (Greek for "mouth" or "opening") is an artificially created body opening through which bodily waste is discharged. Depending on the type of procedure, a distinction is made between:
- Colostomy (large intestine outlet)
- Ileostomy (small intestine outlet)
- Urostomy (artificial urinary diversion)
A stoma may be necessary for various medical reasons, e.g. chronic inflammatory bowel disease, cancer or after accidents. In any case, it is important to have individually tailored stoma care and good professional support – not only immediately after the operation, but also in the long term.

What should you bring?
Please bring your own stoma supplies (e.g. bags, base plates, skin protection), as we do not have all products in stock on site. This will allow us to check your current supplies and, if necessary, improve them together.
Relatives are welcome
A stoma affects not only the person concerned, but also their relatives, carers and partners, who often face new challenges. We warmly invite accompanying persons to attend your appointment. This will allow them to ask questions and gain confidence in dealing with the stoma.
A stoma does not mean the end of quality of life – on the contrary: with the right support and care, you can once again lead an active and independent life. The stoma clinic at Tauernklinikum Zell am See is happy to assist you. Make your appointment now!
