The Institute of Radiology at Tauernklinikum Zell am See and Mittersill offers the complete spectrum of diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology. Zell am See and Mittersill:
- Conventional X-ray – rapid and proven basic diagnostics for many specialist areas
- Computed tomography (CT) – high-resolution cross-sectional imaging for almost all areas of the body
- Image-guided pain therapy – targeted infiltrations for the treatment of chronic or acute pain

- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – radiation-free imaging with maximum detail
- Ultrasound (sonography) – dynamic examination of organs and vessels

With state-of-the-art CT and MRI systems and automated image post-processing using AI-supported software, the institute offers numerous specialised examinations:

- Dual-energy CT – e.g. for gout diagnosis and tissue analysis
- High-resolution CT of the lungs – precise assessment of pulmonary diseases
- Perfusion CT for stroke diagnosis – including AI-supported acute evaluation
- MRI for neurodegenerative diseases – early detection and monitoring of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or multiple sclerosis, including AI-supported evaluation
- MRI for early detection of prostate cancer – highly precise diagnostics with AI support

About the person
Prim. Priv.-Doz. DDr. Karl Egger has been head of the Institute of Radiology at the Tauernklinikum Zell am See and Mittersill since 2019.
Under his leadership, the entire range of modern diagnostic imaging services has been continuously expanded – from conventional radiology, CT and MRI to highly specialised procedures in interventional radiology and AI-supported image analysis.
Prim. Priv.-Doz. DDr. Egger has many years of international expertise in radiology and neuroradiology, which led him to spend two years at Harvard Medical School in Boston and a further nine years at the University of Freiburg, including as medical director of the Freiburg Brain Imaging Centre.
As a visiting professor at the Medical University of Vienna and author of over 100 scientific publications, he combines clinical precision with outstanding scientific and academic expertise.
As director of the Institute of Radiology, he is particularly committed to patient-oriented diagnostics at the highest professional level. He attaches great importance to individual care, reliable results and the integration of state-of-the-art technologies in order to make early diagnoses and thus enable the best possible therapy.
