New Medical Director at Tauernklinikum

(Zell am See, 2 May 2024) – Tauernklinikum is delighted to announce the appointment of senior physician Dr Michael Hofer as its new Medical Director. With an impressive career and many years of experience as a senior physician, he brings a wealth of expertise and leadership skills to the role.

The former Medical Director, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rudolph Pointer, explains, "I am delighted to be able to hand over this responsible position to such an experienced colleague from within our own organisation. Senior Physician Dr. Hofer knows his colleagues and the needs of the hospital, and the smooth handover over the last few weeks confirms this decision."

Senior physician Dr Hofer studied at the University of Graz and obtained his doctorate in 1983. He completed his training as a specialist in surgery at Kapfenberg Hospital, while also successfully completing additional training in internal medicine at LKH Bruck and pathology at LKH Leoben. He expanded his professional expertise through training in trauma surgery at AKH Linz under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Reschauer and through orthopaedic training with Prof. Dr. Böhler, also at AKH Linz.

Since 1994, Dr Hofer has held positions of responsibility in various medical institutions, including as senior consultant in the surgical department at Kapfenberg Hospital and as senior consultant in the trauma surgery department at Zell am See Hospital. From July 2022 to September 2023, he successfully headed the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Tauernklinikum with two locations on an interim basis.

The appointment of senior physician Dr Michael Hofer as medical director marks an important milestone for the Tauernklinikum and is a commitment to future-oriented, successful cooperation, both between the Tauernklinikum locations and with general practitioners, specialists and neighbouring hospitals in the region.
